What to give to an Irish homestay family?

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 by admin

I’ll be leaving for the United Kingdom and Ireland with People to People soon and I need some good ideas for the home stay family. They live in Ireland so what would be acceptable and ambassador like?
Also i’m 17 so i shouldn’t be carrying anything overseas that would suggest i’m over 21

just bring a nice gift from your home country, like a bit of pottery or a some other craft wear.

What region of France would be best for a teenage girl in a homestay for 2 weeks?

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 by admin

I’m going to be going on a homestay in France for two weeks this May but I need to decide what areas would be best to visit. I’ll be staying with a family through the program but they aren’t expected to be my tour guides. I’ll have just turned 18 and I won’t be able to drive, drink, etc.. according to the programs rules. What would be the best region to visit considering transportation, safety, and things of interest to do?

Nantes is lovely, as it Cassis and some other little towns close to the Spanish border. If you’re trying to get your french up then provence is the most beautiful, inexpensive and charming way of doing it- you’ll find that people are keen to speak with you if you’re willing to learn!

Steer clear of Marseilles, it’s quite rough I believe, though if you were with a nice host family I’m sure it’d be fine! Paris is wonderful but I think it’s be quite difficult to organise a host family there…

Drinking and driving aren’t really a necessity in France, it’s the food and the people and the scenery that’ll blow you away. Perhaps look at places someone you know has been to and then they can give you a feel for whether it’ll suit your tastes, it all depends on what you’re in to!

Worst case scenario though, you’re only there for two weeks, so try and make the most of them wherever you end up!

Homestay programs in Spain?

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 by admin

I have 3000(don’t worry about air fare) to spend on 4-6 weeks in Spain. I’m going alone, as a student. I’m 16.

I want to stay in a city where I can take see Spain’s history, mainly the Moorish castles, and perhaps walk some of the castle routes there are.

What would the best gameplan be? I

Should I get into a full homestay program? If so, is there one for $3000 or less?

Or Could I stay in a youth hostel and then manipulate mass transit to explore Spain on my own?

Go to www.ef.com

you can go to Barcelona or some place that starts with an "M" close to Gibraltar. It’s really cheap, you’d have spending money after the $3000. but the down side is that you get a course in Spanish too. i don’t think they’ll hold it against you for missing one lesson though.

I’m 17 (i was 16 yesterday, literally, today’s my birthday) and I’m trying to talk my parents into letting me go during the summer. tell me if you find evidence that they7 aren’t Turkish sex slavers.

ask to your study abroad advisor. There are different options according to the university and program you go. For example, sometimes they make you stay with a family for a month or so until you find your place.
