Malaysian family offers homestay ?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

any Local family offers homestay, let a room to an international student to stay and charge rental monthly as well. Learning and exchanging customs, traditions by doing so ?

There are exchange programs you can apply to join such as Lions Clubs International Youth Exchange Program (<http://www.lionsclubs.org>). If successful, you’ll be hosted for up to 6 weeks by a host family in Malaysia (such programs are also available in many countries) and you only need to pay for the return airfare from your home country. There are also cultural exchanges between sister cities (e.g. Georgetown and Adelaide, Ipoh and Fukuoka etc.). Finally, if you are visiting Malaysia on a visitor’s visa, then you can also have long-term stays at youth hostels and YMCA (which gives you freedom to move around a bit more than staying with one family). If you are really keen to stay with a family, email me your details and maybe I can arrange something!

I left a bike($200) with homestay-family a year ago. They paid to get it adjusted without asking. what do I do

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

I was homestaying with this family and moved out of there a year ago. When I left, I left my bike in their garage and today, I decided to go and pick it up. When I called, the mother tells me they didn’t know whose it was and she took it to the bike shop and paid lots of money to get it adjusted for her daughter. She kept telling me that it was my fault that I didn’t pick it up when I left and that she thought I was no longer in the country (I’m guessing cause I’m an international student). However, they never even tried to call me, not once, before they made this decision. And now she’s asking me to pay for what she paid at the bike shop to get it back. I know I haven’t claimed it for a year, but it really upsets me that she would ask me of that and to blaim the whole thing on me. What should I do?

My Friend If U Leave Something At Someones House For A Year Then It Is Abandoned,Most People Would Laugh At You,Get A New Bike………Keep Your Friends…They Did Nothing Wrong,Most People Would Have Given It Away Or Trashed It…

Any tips on traveling to Japan on my own?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

I am planning to go to Tokyo for a week or so sometime during winter.
I’d be 16 at the time of the trip, and I’d stay either in a hotel, or at a homestay host’s house.

Any tips on traveling on my own?

I’ve traveled out of the country a few times with family, so I can manage at an airport, but one thing I’m also wondering is, do they usually have English speaking staff at airports? Because my Japanese is not great.

Most Japanese who work in public area would deal with the English speakers all the time so that they would have some basic ideas. I recommend bringing a pen and paper with you because it might be easier for them to understand written English rather than audio English.

I want to open a homestay – where can I get info?

High school homestay program?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

Looking for a program that lasts from 3-8 weeks DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, regardless of price, language, or location.

Since you already know English, it would be best for you to go with Spanish now.

Spain is a wonderful choice and the program www.beautifulspain.com, one of the best if not the best of the programs offered abroad world wide. Location is a safe and most amazingly beautiful beach resort in Northern Spain.
Host families are extremely well screened and very loving. This program gets returnees year after year, so great it is.

Cost is really reasonable considering everything included (as long as you sign up with this program through their web site as there are organizations that sell the same program for much more so high quality it is).

Some of the activities and excursions it offers besides Spanish, cooking and dancing classes are: Guggenheim Museum, paella dinner, bullfight, fireworks on the beach, city tour, medieval towns, fishing villages, many beach days, Aquarium, tall ship vessel excursion, Roman village hiking trip, canoening down the river, shopping, and much more.

It offers you the possibility of enrolling with a friend with whom to share same host family home, or for you to stay alone at host family. Many host families count on children of similar age to participating students.

Does homestay allow students to bring their own laptops?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

I’m applying for an exchange program. SMG (http://www.student-management.com/flash/high-school.htm)

My dad heard from some where that most hosts don’t allow students to use laptops or cell phones unless they prove that they get good grades. Cell phone is fine. I don’t need it. But laptops? Isn’t that supposed to be for writing essays and projects at school?

So can you bring your own laptops to a homestay?

i’m very sure laptops are allowed. i could understand why some hosts are apprehensive about the use of computers. they just want to make sure their students are not lured into any nasty websites or fall prey to lurking stalkers. i suggest you work a compromise with your host. let them put on the necessary blocks (parental control) in your laptops and on your part, assure them that emailing and instant messaging will be done only with friends you actually know and known to your parents.

trust is a two-way street.

good luck.

what’s the cheapest way to stay in toyko for 3 months?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

i’m planning to be in tokyo for 3 months but still can’t find a place to stay. my budget for accommodation is US$400 per month. can anyone tell me the cheapest way to stay around tokyo? homestay, guest house, etc. etc. anything is acceptable

Adam is wrong, despite his confident assurance and massive accumulation of points. It’s entirely possible to rent a room for 400$ (~almost 50,000 yen) per month in Tokyo. It’s just not going to be a big room.

Here is a place in Asakusa with rooms as low as 37,000 a month:
http://www.sakura-house.com/english/premise/asakusa2.php

here are numerous guest houses, many within your price range in the Metropolis classifieds
http://metropolis.co.jp/classifieds/biz.asp?action=home&pid=80

Some other good resources are:
http://www.thewindsite.com
http://www.gaijinpot.com

Granted, these are not going to be the cleanest, quietest, or most centrally located rooms, but they are within your price range.
