How to find students who need homestay in Las Vegas?

Posted on January 14th, 2011 by admin

My family is very interested in hosting an international student for homestay. However, we haven’t done this before so we don’t know how to go about doing this.

I’m a college student and I was thinking about putting up ads up at my university but don’t know if that is a good way to advertise.

It would also be nice if you could inform me on any good sites to find students who need homestay.

So…I’m curious on how to host international student for homestay in Las Vegas??? I don’t know how to go about doing this or where to find students who need homestay.

I’ve checked some websites but none of them seem helpful at all…

I wasn’t sure about what area to put this question under so I just decided to put it under Las Vegas since its the city where I would be doing homestay

I’m not sure what Homestay is, but Couchsurfing.com is a great way to travel around the world and find cheap, and sometimes free places to crash at someone else’s pad. People just do it to meet others.

I’m from Canada and i stayed in San Diego for 3 days on my way down from Mexico.

What can I get my Japanese homestay student for Christmas?

She’s 20 years old. Any nice, heartfelt (but not too expensive) ideas would be great, thanks :)

Get her your favorite cd so she can have an American souvenir and get a Christmas frame with you to in it

Should I do this exchange student program?

Posted on November 1st, 2010 by admin

I am 15 years old, and there is a 6 Week exchange program that is going to be in Japan, June 2011 and it will be a homestay; I have never been away for more then a few days from my family, and I dont know if I would get extremley homestick; do you think I should do it? If so, anyways to get over the homesickness?

Definitely go for it. I am sure you will find that traveling is one of the most amazing things you can do. Exploring the world and understanding different cultures (especially one as exotic as Japanese culture) will build you as a person. Once you start to travel around you will feel more worldly. Those experiences can come through even in everyday conversation. I have found that world traveling can really help to build self-confidence and especially independence. This sounds like an opportunity that would really be a shame to miss. As for homesickness, 6 weeks is not a very long time. I’m sure you’ll miss your family and home, but I have a feeling that you will be so fascinated by a country like Japan that the days will go fast. 6 weeks in Japan may seem daunting when you are 15, but I think if you pass up this chance, in a few years you might seriously regret it. Anyway, that’s my two cents.

What is a good gift to give a homestay family?

Posted on October 30th, 2010 by admin

Hi! I’ll be traveling to europe for three weeks as part of a student ambassador program and during my trip I will have a homestay with a family in Spain. I was looking for some suggestion on what I should give them as a gift to show my gratitude for their hospitality. nothing too extravagent of expensive.

something that they can look at instantly and know its from the USA. T-shirts and caps and toiletries are good ideas and don’t take up much space.

What is a good place to stay in Germany when you are a summer homestay student?

Posted on October 27th, 2010 by admin

Any place with a railway station where trains leave more than once an hour. This basically means most cities over 20,000 inhabitants. Good connections to a larger city (more than 200,000 inh.) within 2 hours of travel is also essential. Having a university in the same town is always a big plus, as it lightens up the nightlife.
