I am from Virginia, and I am a part of the People to People Student Ambassador Program to go to China this summer for 17 days. There will be one overnight stay with a family, and we have been advised to bring a gift to leave on our bed upon leaving so the family will find it later and not feel obligated to give us a gift in return. I’m just really not sure what to bring. Please help!

Something "local" would be nice- for instance, I am from Charleston and the pineapple is a symbol of hospitality so I might consider something pineapple-ish with an explanation.

Some post cards from your area are also good- you can use a hole puncher to punch them, then use hole protectors and put them on a ring.

It’s part of an international language homestay program, with offices in England, but student stays in teacher’s home in the U.S. the whole time. A Dutch student would like to stay in NY for a week through this school’s programs but wouldn’t actually be in school. I can’t understand the U.S. consulate website enough to find this since there are nuances involved. I don’t have access to a lawyer to ask this simple question, and the Dutch woman is hoping I’ll find out for her! Thanks for your time.

NO visa is needed for this short period of study in a home. Citizens of the netherlands may visit the u.S. without a visa for up to 90 days and may engage in short courses of study . The student will need to apply for ESTA. See site below. Very easy and all the student needs is his ESTA print out and a passport.

Okay, so im a high school student (14) and im going to japan in 4 months or so and i was just wondering how much money i would approximately need to bring. Im going for 2 weeks and the first week all meals, flights, accommodation (since im staying with a homestay family) , trips (bullet trains, subway) and entry to places (since its all paid for at the start (around $3000 Australian Dollars)) etc is paid for, but on the second week i do have to pay for all food. I do like shopping, but i wont be shopping like everyday since we have an itenerary thing to follow (but i love shopping ) and i also dont think i will have much room to bring stuff back on the plane with me :c im not sure.. I will be going to tokyo (around 7 days, one night (i will be with a family then, sightseeing & D.L), osaka (3 days, doing shopping and universal studios flying home from) and hiroshima (sightseeing for a day) and kyoto (sightseeing for four days). I am also going to tokyo disneyland and universal studios. I do want to buy lots of souviners and lots of little stuff for me and my family.

Thanks everyone for answering

You simply have to set a budget and stick to it so far as your shopping goes. As for meals it depends on where you want to eat. You could get by on 2,500 yen/day. If you want to go to a semi-nice restaurant and really experience the local cuisine, then that could double easily.

And what is the best accommodation method for an International student for a year in London near Chelsea? Is homestay the best option?
Thanks

It is a sixth form college, so it covers the last two years of high school and does courses for university or vocational qualifications. Are you sure this is what you are after? I’m not sure what the rules are for international students as these kind of colleges are government funded and students don’t usually pay fees or live away from home. I might be wrong though, contact the college themselves and ask them.

It is not in Chelsea, it is Fulham. A home stay would be the best option, a rented property in that area can set you back at least 300 (sterling) a week.

What do you think about Homestays? Do you think they’re good? Dangerous? Just want more opinions please.
Thank-you:)

They are cost effective and safe. For Australia you should go through a Homestay Provider as against direct arrangements with Hosts. Homestay providers provide a financially and physically more secure arrangement. e.g. www.meridianhomestay.com

I’ve been with my boyfriend over two years, and we’ve been through many of those "stop flirting with my boyfriend!" moments, but none as severe as this one.
There has been a girl at his church who he is friends with (which I initially had no problem with,) but I became slightly concerned when she started visiting his house every weekend for hours (she said she was visiting his homestay international student whom she is friends with also). I let it go, but kept an eye on it.
My boyfriend came to me awhile ago, concerned, and told me that this girl had confessed that she "loved" him, and that she wants him to leave me for her. When I confronted her, via facebook (since I have never met her,) she declared that I "couldn’t stop their love!". And the feelings were obviously not mutual, hence the reason my boyfriend let me give her my usual rant to the girls that like to flirt with him.
I told her to back off and mind her space, since i had been together with him for over two years. Eventually she said okay, and agreed to back off. I had said that possibly in the future, the two of them could become friends again. So apparently, two weeks later, she seems to think I’m totally over her little love confession, and has started posting things on my boyfriends wall like "Oooooh i Loooooveeee your new hair cut! It looks so good! "

Needless to say this makes me and my boyfriend quite uncomfortable!

HOW DO WE STOP HER????
Yes, He did tell her face to face that she had to back off and respect our relationship, privacy and space…. Shes obviously not though..! We’re working on the ignoring… but i just have the urge to scream all sorts of profanities at her.

bitch slap the hoe

I have found some cadets who were able to complete up to a half-year abroad, so I’m just curious as to how it works.

not likely, you’re going to miss quite a few leadership labs
