Investing in education is one of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyos many initiatives to fight and eliminate poverty in the country as she believes that it is the key factor in hastening economic growth and development.
In her visit to Donsol National Comprehensive High School in Donsol, Sorsogon, the President inspected the Learning Resource Center, where units of computers with internet access were set up, as a response to her directive to make internet connection available to public high schools all over the country.
In the presentation made by Presidential Adviser on Education Undersecretary Mona Valisno, she reported the accomplishments of the education programs being implemented in order to attain President Arroyos vision of a Philippines ready for the first world in 20 years.
One of these programs is the Philippine Main Education Highway, which includes: getting all children to school; keeping children in school; getting all children to finish elementary, and if possible, high school too; raising achievement level; improving the match and linkage of the academe and industry; enhancing global competitiveness of human resource; and benchmarking towards international recognition of Filipino professionals, academic degrees and international qualifications.
After the program, President Arroyo interacted with the students, teachers and residents before she left for Misibis Bay Raintree Resort in Misibis, Albay to join the local media and some of the members of the Malacanang Press Corps in a dinner. (*SNN)
