im studying abroad in geneva switzerland and i have been put in a flat. but wud it be better if i was with a host family?
I am studying in England this year and I am in a flat- it’s a lot of fun and I appreciate my independence.
My friend is in Spain and she is currently doing a homestay- which is good for language, but different countries have different cultures and she doesn’t like some of the rules of staying with a host family. For instance she is not allowed to have any visitors, they are very private in their family units, so I can’t really go visit her at all. And she isn’t allowed to have the shower on for more than 5 min at a time so has to take fractured showers. There are just little things that some people may not to live an entire year with.
She is actually moving from a homestay to a flat in 2 weeks because of it all. She loves her host family but it is actually costing her way more to stay with a family than a flat. So that is a factor also.
Really depends on what sort of experience you want. Living with a group your own age is more fun, in my opinion.
