Ghibli Museum with host family, pics and engraved Howl’s Moving Castle ring

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

It was beautiful. Styled like the buildings in his movies, and lots of plants and water pumps and old fashioned steam-punk things around… Just gorgeous. I wasn’t really allowed to take pictures inside, but I did take a lot outside and I get some video footage of inside at certain places. We all walked around and I was having a fit over just how beautiful everything was.

Then we went to the showing of Hoshi wo Katta Hi (”The Day I Harvested a Planet”), one of Miyazaki’s short films. From the posters I saw outside the theater, I noticed that the main character looked a lot like Howl when he was a young boy, so I was immediately attracted to this movie. But then it started, and it was so good and the soundtrack was so amazingly beautiful that I just fell in love.

As I walked around the gift shop, I was sad that there wasn’t really much Howl’s Moving Castle stuff (it’s my favorite book and the movie adaptation is also a favorite). I got to the section where they had like silverware and glass things… I saw a silver ring with red jewels and I just froze. Engraved on the inside was “Howl & Sophie”. My heart melted instantly and I asked to have a look at it to see if it would fit (since most of the time, rings are way too big for me), and it fit perfectly. I stood there for five minutes staring at the ring, then my host dad came over to ask what was up. I told him that I wanted the ring so bad, and that it was about $127. He talked to the cashier and told me that this was the only store you could get the ring at.

And as I looked at the names in the ring once more, I said, “I’ll buy it.”

After going to the register and getting everything wrapped up, we found out that I had just bought the last ring and they were now sold out. *___*

Casa De Mirita is not a hotel or apartment, but rather an opportunity to stay with a family in Cajamarca, Peru. We enjoyed our two nights here with Vicky, Mirita, and Vicky’s daughter Dianna.

If you are looking for an apartment or hotel during your stay in Cajamarca, why not live with a family instead and experience Peru as Peruvians experience Cajamarca, Peru?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

I went to Japan through YFU on the summer of 2008 and here are some suggestions or some things to expect if you want to study abroad and homestay in Japan as well. :) I’ve also been to Japan two other times and have had many Japanese exchange brothers and sisters who lived with my family as well, so I at least know a little something of what I’m talking about. Trip to Kamogawa with host family, Ryokan hotel and Seaworld

Posted on April 23rd, 2010 by admin

Edit: Friggin’ YouTube. I spent 3 hours uploading this video to find that it once again cut it to like 4:42 when my video was barely 10 minutes long. In order to reupload, I had to crapify the quality because my SUPER HIGH QUALITY IPHONE VIDEO is too much for YouTube to handle .__.

Documenting when my host family took me to Kamogawa! It was a little over a two hour drive from where we live, but it wasn’t so bad because of the beautiful scenery and the fact that we drove across a really long bridge from one side of the bay to the other, and that there never seems to be anyone on the freeway around here. Being from Los Angeles, that is amazing to me.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I bore easily and decided to color-code the subtitles.
Me – black
Youko – pink
Tomo – dark blue
Touse – light blue
Ryouei – green

And I know, I know. I filmed a lot of TV in this one. But some of the stuff we were watching was too hilarious to pass up. Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is actually really hilarious… And it must cost so much for them to make that show. It’s all high quality fighting sequences, effects… Lolz. Wish they had that kinda money for the live action Sailor Moon.

I didn’t get to film all the sea creatures I wanted to because my feeble iPhone battery couldn’t handle me constantly filming. But I got the best stuff, so it’s okay.

Enjoy!

☆ YOSHIMITU ☆ YOUTUBE DEBUT ☆

Posted on April 20th, 2010 by admin

My older host brother from the Makki family. There’s two takes, included both just for kicks and giggles. He was really cool and really nice =]

In the second take you can see my younger host brother Yoshinori. He was SO GENEROUS to share his room with me for three months, so ultimate thanks to him!

I also had a host sister, but she is not in the video! She was also very cool =]

Basically what he says is that he’s a 2nd year student in college, I’m doing a homestay program with them, and it’s his YouTube debut. Oh, and that he lives in Osaka.
